Colossal: A Look Back at Some of the NBA's Forgotten Giants

Basketball always has been, and always will be, a land of giants. That statement is so true that even the average height in the NBA right now, 6'6, is still a good seven inches taller than the average man in the United States. While there are some examples of players below the average height who carved out lengthy, successful careers in the NBA, history has shown that if you want to play basketball, being tall helps a lot. But this post isn't about the average NBA player being taller than the average person. This is about the players who are tall even by NBA standards. Whether they be Hall of Fame level talents like Arvydas Sabonis or Yao Ming, well-known role players like Shawn Bradley or Manute Bol, or walking memes like Boban Marjanović and Tacko Fall these giants tend to leave a lasting impact on the league. But what about the ones that don't? What about the extremely tall men who enter the league, but never find their footing and only spend a cup of coffee in the big t...

NBA Team of the Week (1/17/21-1/23/21)

It's Monday, you know what that means! It's time to take a look back at the past week and see who the best players were around the league. Click here to check out last week's if you missed it . If not, let's get into this. Point Guard: Trae Young After a strong start to the season, the Atlanta Hawks have mellowed out significantly since the start of 2021, currently sitting at 8-8 on the year after starting the season 4-1. This past week, however, the team has looked as good as they did to start the year, going a perfect 3-0 behind the excellent play of Trae Young. Young, who had also been on a slump after a strong start to the year, broke his cold streak and put up one of the best stat lines in the entire league. For the week, Young averaged 33.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 9.3 assists, and 1.7 steals per game while shooting 50% from the field and 59% from three-point range. Young would score a season-high 38 points against the Pistons this week, only to top that two days l...

NBA Team of the Week (1/10/21-1/16/21)

It's Monday, you know what that means! It's time to take a look back at the past week and see who the best players were around the league. Click here to check out last week's if you missed it . If not, let's get into this. Point Guard: Luka Dončić For the second week in a row, the easy choice for the top point guard in the league this week was Luka Dončić. After a disappointing start to the season, the Dallas Mavericks have rebounded and risen to a decent 6-5 record on the year. A 1-1 outing this past week didn't really hurt or help their standing, but they are still one of the better teams in the West early in the year. Leading the way for the Mavericks was, obviously, Dončić. For the second week in a row, Dončić averaged a triple-double, racking up 31 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 11 assists per game, while also adding a steal and two blocks per game and shooting 53% from the field and 38% from three. In the Mavericks' sole win this week over the Hornets, Dončić...

NBA Team of the Week (1/3/21-1/9/21)

It's Monday, you know what that means! It's time to take a look back at the past week and see who the best players were around the league. Click here to check out last week's if you missed it . If not, let's get into this. Point Guard: Luka Dončić After an underwhelming start to the year where they went 2-3, the Dallas Mavericks have rebounded in a big way this past week, going 3-1 and improving to 5-4 on the year. This bounce-back can be attributed to strong performances by the supporting cast, specifically Tim Hardaway Jr, but the clear leader for this team this past week was Luka Dončić. In the three games he played this week, the Mavericks went undefeated while Dončić averaged a triple-double 30.3 points, 12 rebounds, and 11.3 assists per game while shooting 48% from the field and 31% from three-point range and adding two steals a game. During the week, Dončić recorded two triple-doubles, the best of which came in the win over the Rockets when he recorded 33 points,...

NBA Team of the Week (12/27/20-1/2/21)

It's Monday, you know what that means! It's time to take a look back at the past week and see who the best players were around the league. Click here to check out last week's if you missed it . If not, let's get into this. Point Guard: Stephen Curry After a rough start to the season, the Golden State Warriors have been able to rebound somewhat this past week, picking up their first two wins of the season after going 2-1. They're still at the bottom of the West with a 2-3 record on the year and have some glaring issues that need to be fixed (I'm looking at you, Kelly Oubre Jr. and your 4% three-point shooting), but things are looking a lot better than they did a week ago. A big part of that was, unsurprisingly, Stephen Curry, who has had to take on the role as the team's sole all-star at the moment, and this week, he didn't disappoint. For the week, Curry averaged 31 points, 5 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 47% from the fiel...
