NBA Team of the Week (2/28/21-3/6/21)

It's Monday, you know what that means! It's time to take a look back at the past week and see who the best players were around the league. Selections are based mostly on the player's stats, but (minus the rookie of the week) their team's record during the week is also taken into consideration. Click here to check out last week's if you missed it . If not, let's get into this. Point Guard: Damian Lillard As All-Star weekend comes to a close as I write this, we've pretty much hit the halfway mark of the season. The playoff race is starting to come to a close, and right now, the Portland Trail Blazers are looking good. Currently sitting at 5th in the West with a 21-14 record, a perfect 3-0 outing certainly helped strengthen their position in the playoff hunt. There were multiple players responsible for the Blazers' success this week, and one of them was Damian Lillard. For the week, Portland's sole all-star averaged 29.7 points, 7.7 assists, and 1.7 ste...

NBA Team of the Week (2/7/21-2/13/21)

It's Monday, you know what that means! It's time to take a look back at the past week and see who the best players were around the league. Selections are based mostly on the player's stats, but their team's record during the week is also taken into consideration. Click here to check out last week's if you missed it. If not, let's get into this. Point Guard: Luka Dončić After a rough patch knocked them down in the Western Conference standings, the Dallas Mavericks have managed to correct the course and are approaching a .500 winning percentage once again. After winning just two of their last nine games, the Mavericks now find themselves with lots of momentum on their side following a perfect 3-0 week, improving their record to 13-14 on the year. This week did see a huge jump by Kristaps Porziņģis, but the obvious leader is my frequent selection for the top point guard of the week; Luka Dončić. For the week, Dončić averaged 33.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, 9 assists,...

NBA Team of the Week (1/31/21-2/6/21)

It's Monday, you know what that means! It's time to take a look back at the past week and see who the best players were around the league. Click here to check out last week's if you missed it . If not, let's get into this. Point Guard: Luka  Dončić The Dallas Mavericks have been disappointing this year. After playing .500 basketball to start the season, the Mavericks fell off hard at the end of January and into February, losing six straight and dropping 8-13. This past week was a better look for the team, as they went 2-2, but they still find themselves in a hole at 10-14, the second-worst record in the West. Thankfully, Luka  Dončić didn't go into a slump like the team did as a whole, as he has remained one of the best point guards in the league. This week was no different, as he averaged 30.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 9.8 assists, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 43% from the field and 43% from three-point range.  Dončić would cap off the week by matching a car...

NBA Team of the Week (1/24/21-1/30/21)

It's Monday, you know what that means! It's time to take a look back at the past week and see who the best players were around the league. Click here to check out last week's if you missed it. If not, let's get into this. Point Guard: Damian Lillard Before the season started, I expressed my doubts about the Portland Trail Blazers even making the playoffs this year. While they haven't been as bad as I thought they were going to be, they haven't been spectacular by any means. Currently 10-8 on the season, the Blazers went .500 on the week with two wins and two losses. They're not playing well enough to avoid the play-in tournament, but they're are staying afloat so far, and a big reason they've been doing that is Damian Lillard. As usual, Lillard has been among the league's best point guards this season, and this week, he was the best of the bunch. For the week, Lillard averaged 34.8 points, 5 rebounds, and 9 assists per game while shooting 51% f...

NBA Team of the Week (1/3/21-1/9/21)

It's Monday, you know what that means! It's time to take a look back at the past week and see who the best players were around the league. Click here to check out last week's if you missed it . If not, let's get into this. Point Guard: Luka Dončić After an underwhelming start to the year where they went 2-3, the Dallas Mavericks have rebounded in a big way this past week, going 3-1 and improving to 5-4 on the year. This bounce-back can be attributed to strong performances by the supporting cast, specifically Tim Hardaway Jr, but the clear leader for this team this past week was Luka Dončić. In the three games he played this week, the Mavericks went undefeated while Dončić averaged a triple-double 30.3 points, 12 rebounds, and 11.3 assists per game while shooting 48% from the field and 31% from three-point range and adding two steals a game. During the week, Dončić recorded two triple-doubles, the best of which came in the win over the Rockets when he recorded 33 points,...

Heat Check: What Made the 2011 Dallas Mavericks So Special

In this fall... this is very tough... in this fall I'm going to take my talents to South Beach and join the Miami Heat. Those words, uttered by LeBron James on July 8, 2010 from the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich, Connecticut, seemed to write the conclusion of the upcoming NBA season right there and then. James, the reigning and two-time MVP, was joining the Miami Heat and teaming up with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. Between the three of them in 2010 were James' two-MVPs, 17 all-star selections, and six All-NBA 1st team selections. All of this while the three were still in their primes and all under 30. The early 2010s looked like they were going to be ruled by the Miami Heat, and the 2010-11 season would be their official coronation. The preseason odds put the Heat at +175 , the best in the league. The Heat would post one of the best records in the league that season before costing to the NBA Finals, never going beyond Game 5 in each of the first three rounds of the playoff...
