NBA Team of the Week (10/27-11/2)

With another week of the NBA season in the books, it's time for me to give my picks for the Team of the Week. Click here to read last week's edition. So with that out of the way, this is the NBA Team of the Week.

Point Guard: Damian Lillard

Following a disappointing end to last season when they got swept in the Conference Finals, a strong start to the 2019-20 season was necessary for the Trail Blazers to re-establish themselves as one of the top teams in the league. So far, they've been less than impressive, as they're currently 3-3 following a 2-2 outing this past week. While the team hasn't been anything special so far, Damian Lillard has still been performing at the top of his game, and this week was no different. For the week, Lillard averaged 28 points, 6 rebounds, 8.5 assists, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 45% from the field and 43% from three-point range. Lillard's best performance of the week was a 23 point, 13 assist double-double to push the Blazers to a win over the Thunder

Reserves

Kemba Walker: 32.5 PPG, 6 RPG, 5.5 APG, 40% FG, 35% 3FG, 97% FT
Kyrie Irving: 26.8 PPG, 7.3 RPG, 8.3 APG, 43% FG, 38% 3FG

Shooting Guard: James Harden

Last week, James Harden had the stat line to be considered a reserve for the Team of the Week. The reason I didn't put him on the list was simple; he shot 24% from the field. This week, he put up a fantastic stat line and shot the ball well enough, so there's no excluding him this week. Harden's fantastic week led the Rockets to a 2-1 record, putting them at 3-2 for the season so far. For the week, Harden averaged a staggering 45 points and 8 assists per game while shooting 43% from the field and 95% from the free-throw line. Harden's best performance of the week was easily in the Rockets' defenseless match-up against the Wizards, where he dropped 59 points and 9 assists.

Reserves

Bradley Beal: 38 PPG, 4.5 APG, 2 SPG, 56% FG, 50% 3FG
CJ McCollum: 25 PPG, 4 RPG, 42% FG, 38% 3FG, 91% FT

Small Forward: Kawhi Leonard

Unsurprisingly, the Clippers have started off the season strong, currently sitting at 4-2 after a 2-1 outing this past week. Even with Paul George out of action to start the season, the Clippers have been able to stay in the top four of the Western Conference, and it's been Kawhi Leonard leading the way for them. Despite only playing in two games this week, the reigning Finals MVP has been dominant to start the season, with the only game the Clippers lost this week being the one Leonard sat out for. For the week, Leonard averaged 34 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 50% from the field, 44% from three-point range, and a perfect 14/14 free throw shooting. After missing one game, Leonard returned and came back big with a 38 point, 12 rebound, 4 steal performance in a win over the Spurs.

Reserves

LeBron James: 27.3 PPG, 6.7 RPG, 12 APG, 1.7 SPG, 54% FG, 41% 3FG
Jeremy Lamb: 23 PPG, 8.5 RPG, 1.5 SPG, 56% FG, 33% 3FG

Power Forward: Anthony Davis

Despite the opening night loss, the Lakers have started off the season hot and have gone undefeated since that loss. The LeBron-AD era in Los Angeles has been very successful so far, with both of them having stellar weeks. Between the two, however, it was Anthony Davis who led the way, as he had a stellar week as the Lakers went a perfect 3-0. For the week, Davis averaged 33.3 points, 14 rebounds, a steal and 2.3 blocks per game while shooting 50% from the field and 94% from the free-throw line. Davis' best performance of the week came in a win against the Grizzlies, where he put up 40 points and grabbed 20 rebounds, becoming the first Laker since Shaquille O'Neal to do it.

Reserves

Giannis Antetokounmpo: 25.3 PPG, 13.3 RPG, 6.5 APG, 1 SPG, 2 BPG, 58% FG
Pascal Siakam: 23.3 PPG, 6,3 RPG, 1 SPG, 52% FG, 38% 3FG, 100% FT

Center: Andre Drummond

The Pistons haven't been all that good this season so far, but they haven't been terrible either. Currently sitting at 3-4 on the year, the Pistons are seventh in the Eastern Conference following a 2-2 week. While a lot of attention has been given to Derrick Rose for his strong start to the season, Andre Drummond has been phenomenal early in the season, and this week was no different. For the week, Drummond averaged 22.3 points, a whopping 21 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and 2.8 blocks per game while shooting 60% from the field. Drummond was dominant all week long, recording 20 points and 20 rebounds in three of the four games he played in this week.

Reserves

Joel Embiid: 27.5 PPG, 9 RPG, 2 SPG, 1 BPG, 58% FG, 43% 3FG, 100% FT
Kevin Love: 18 PPG, 17.7 RPG, 4 APG, 47% FG, 38% 3FG

Thanks for reading. Be sure to share if you enjoy and come back next week for another NBA Team of the Week.

The Best Undrafted NBA Player From Each Year Since 2000

Most of us have probably felt the disappointment of not being picked for a sports team in high school. Now imagine that, only the selection process is on national television, all your friends & family are with you waiting for a call that's never coming, and you have to watch as everyone else in the pool is picked over you, and that's probably how it feels to go undrafted. Every year, hundreds of college athletes declare for the draft with the hopes of going pro in their sport of choice. However, with a limited number of draft selections available, not all of them will make the cut and find themselves on a team by the end of the draft. The NBA is no stranger to this, as with only 60 picks in each draft, plenty of prospects go undrafted each year. That's not to say that someone's NBA dreams are dead if they don't get picked, as plenty of undrafted players from various draft classes end up making it to the NBA, with some even having lengthy, successful careers for ...

SHOCKING! Trail Blazers' Zach Collins Has No Racist Tweets From Past

UPDATE: Scratch that. He actually does In wake of the recent scandals involving Major League Baseball players and offensive tweets from their pasts, the basketball world was shocked to discover that Zach Collins of the Portland Trail Blazers did not have any racists posts on his Twitter account from before he was a professional basketball player. As first discovered by Twitter user Xavier Pousey, better known by his Twitter handle @KingCollison4, the former Gonzaga player's Twitter account contained a surprising lack of offensive tweets from his high school days. "He was really just wishing all his friends happy birthday, it wasn't what I was expecting at all," said Pousey when reached for comments by the Basketball Section. "He tweeted about School of Rock not being on Netflix once...that's all I've got." Pousey, a Panda Express employee by day and a Nick Collison fan account administrator by night, initially looked into Collins' Twitter ...

The Top 10 2008 High School Recruits: 10 Years Later

Recently I saw a video by YouTuber KTO where he took a look back at the top 10 high football recruits in 2008  and how their careers turned out. So that gave me an idea to take a look at the top 10 high school basketball recruits from the 2008 ESPN 100 and take a look at where they are now 10 years later. Before I start, here are some the players who didn't crack the top 10 that might surprise you considering who did make it. Reggie Jackson ranked #94. Attended Boston College for three years before being drafted with the 24th pick by the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2011. Currently holds career averages of 12.4 points and 4.4 assists with 43% field goal shooting and 31% three-point shooting. Klay Thompson ranked #53. Attended Washington State for three years before being drafted with the 11th pick by the Golden State Warriors in the 2011 draft.
