NBA Team of the Week (11/3-11/9)

With another week of the NBA season in the books, it's time for me to give my picks for the Team of the Week. Click here to read last week's edition. Now before I start, I just want to mention that, for these, I don't pick players who's teams performed poorly that week. If a player averages 40 points a game for a week, but his team does nothing but lose, then what's the point. That being said, D'Angelo Russell & Damian Lillard aren't getting the nods this week, but they will get reserve spots. So with that out of the way, this is the NBA Team of the Week.

Point Guard: Luka Doncic

After three underwhelming seasons, the Mavericks have had a strong start to the season, going 6-3 early in the year after going 3-1 this week. The addition of Kristaps Porzingis has proven to be very beneficial very quickly, but the true leader of the Mavericks has been the reigning Rookie of the Year in Luka Doncic. For the week, Doncic averaged 29.5 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 10 assists per game while shooting 51% from the field, 32% from three-point range, and 93% from the free-throw line. Doncic recorded two triple-doubles this week, first notching 29 points, 14 rebounds, and 15 assists in a win against the Cavaliers and then recording 38 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists in a loss to the Knicks.

Reserves:

Damian Lillard: 40.3 PPG, 4 RPG, 5 APG, 1 SPG, 52% FG, 39% 3FG, 95% FT
Kyrie Irving: 36 PPG, 7.5 APG, 2 SPG, 52% FG, 43% 3FG, 100% FT

Shooting Guard: James Harden

James Harden's shooting struggles are no secret, as he's shooting below 40% early in the season. However, that hasn't been enough to keep the Rockets down, as their currently 6-3 on the season after going 3-1 this week. Despite his underwhelming shooting, Harden has been filling the stat sheet up every night, and this week was no different. For the week, Harden averaged 37.8 points, 7 rebounds, 7.8 assists, 2 steals and a block per game while shooting 44% from the field and 42% from three-point range. Harden dropped over 40 points in two games this week, putting up 44 against the Grizzlies and 42 against the Bulls

Reserves:

D'Angelo Russell: 41 PPG, 6 RPG, 6 APG, 2.5 SPG, 1 BPG, 52% FG, 44% 3FG, 93% FT
Devin Booker: 31 PPG, 4 APG, 66% FG, 63% 3FG, 100% FT

Small Forward: Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Bucks have continued to build off of their strong outing the previous season with a strong start to the new one, as they're currently 7-3 on the year after a 2-1 outing this week. The star for them this week was no surprise, as Giannis Antetokounmpo continues to build off his MVP-winning season with an equally great start to the season. For the week, Antetokounmpo averaged 34 points, 14.7 rebounds, 6.3 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game while shooting 55% from the field and 38% from three-point range. The Greek Freak would record a double-double in every game this week, with his best performance being his 38 points, 16 rebounds, 9 assist near triple-double in a win over the Clippers

Reserves:

LeBron James: 25.3 PPG, 8.3 RPG, 10 APG, 1.3 SPG, 46% FG, 32% 3FG
Brandon Ingram: 30.7 PPG, 7 RPG, 1.3 SPG, 57% FG, 41% 3FG

Power Forward: Pascal Siakam

Despite the loss of the man who led them to their first championship in franchise history in Kawhi Leonard, the Raptors have been able to hold their own and are surprisingly one of the top teams in the NBA right now, currently holding a 7-2 record after a perfect 2-0 week. Leading the way for the team has been Pascal Siakam, who's built off a Most Improved Player Award-winning season and is looking like a potential all-star early in the year. For the week, Siakam averaged 33.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and a steal per game while shooting 61% from the field, 39% from three-point range, and 92% from the free-throw line. Siakam would match his career-high in a win over the Pelicans, as he dropped 44 points and 10 rebounds.

Reserves:

Marcus Morris: 25 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 1.3 SPG, 52% FG, 52% 3FG
Anthony Davis: 22 PPG, 8.7 RPG, 4 APG, 1 SPG, 3.3 BPG, 52% FG, 50% 3FG, 100 FT%

Center: Karl-Anthony Towns

The Timberwolves have not had the strongest start to the season, as they are currently 5-4 on the year after going 1-2 this week. The team did better, however, when they had Karl-Anthony Towns on the court, and he takes the spot on the Team of the Week in an overall weak week for centers in the league. For the week, Towns averaged 22.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 42% from the field. After missing a game this week, Towns led the T'Wolves to their sole win of the week when he dropped 20 points and 14 rebounds against the Warriors.

Reserves:

Andre Drummond: 19 PPG, 16.3 RPG, 6.3 APG, 1 SPG, 1 BPG, 48% FG
Montrezl Harrell: 22.7 PPG, 9 RPG, 1 SPG, 1.7 BPG, 59% FG

The Best Undrafted NBA Player From Each Year Since 2000

Most of us have probably felt the disappointment of not being picked for a sports team in high school. Now imagine that, only the selection process is on national television, all your friends & family are with you waiting for a call that's never coming, and you have to watch as everyone else in the pool is picked over you, and that's probably how it feels to go undrafted. Every year, hundreds of college athletes declare for the draft with the hopes of going pro in their sport of choice. However, with a limited number of draft selections available, not all of them will make the cut and find themselves on a team by the end of the draft. The NBA is no stranger to this, as with only 60 picks in each draft, plenty of prospects go undrafted each year. That's not to say that someone's NBA dreams are dead if they don't get picked, as plenty of undrafted players from various draft classes end up making it to the NBA, with some even having lengthy, successful careers for ...

SHOCKING! Trail Blazers' Zach Collins Has No Racist Tweets From Past

UPDATE: Scratch that. He actually does In wake of the recent scandals involving Major League Baseball players and offensive tweets from their pasts, the basketball world was shocked to discover that Zach Collins of the Portland Trail Blazers did not have any racists posts on his Twitter account from before he was a professional basketball player. As first discovered by Twitter user Xavier Pousey, better known by his Twitter handle @KingCollison4, the former Gonzaga player's Twitter account contained a surprising lack of offensive tweets from his high school days. "He was really just wishing all his friends happy birthday, it wasn't what I was expecting at all," said Pousey when reached for comments by the Basketball Section. "He tweeted about School of Rock not being on Netflix once...that's all I've got." Pousey, a Panda Express employee by day and a Nick Collison fan account administrator by night, initially looked into Collins' Twitter ...
